Volunteer
People volunteer for many different reasons. Some have a connection with us through our outreach programmes, some wish to give something back to their community and others come to strengthen their CV by developing new skills. Our volunteers are of all ages and come from a variety of backgrounds. No matter what the reason, volunteering is an excellent way to meet new people and to support a cause you believe in. We also have lots of opportunities for you to help, both as an occasional volunteer as well as a regular volunteer.
Administrative office
Assistance with administration, computer work, report writing, field visit, and research work on geriatric care or any additional support is very welcome.
Donate
We rely almost entirely on the support of donors, companies, and trusts to rescue and rehabilitate the homeless elderly of Kolkata and it’s surrounding suburbs and to fund our outreach projects.
You can donate items of regular use such as food, medicines, clothes, adult diapers or cleaning materials. Contact us to find out about things we need.
Fundraise
You can organize a fundraising event for FOKE. It could be a teatime gathering, a lecture, a film night or even a party where invited guests are given the opportunity to donate to FOKE. We will support you with photographs and case studies of our work and of the beneficiaries.
Shoe box appeal
Send a present to someone living in poverty. Fill a shoe box with toys, school supplies, hygiene items and/or dry food items and share it with us. We will ensure it reaches someone who needs it.

Visit and spend time with our members
The thing that our residents, indeed many elderly people, miss the most is the company of friends and family. This is where you come in. You are very welcome to come and talk to them, share your experiences, read them a story, sing songs together or take someone for a short walk (or wheelchair ride) around the garden. You could even bring films to watch together. If you are professionally trained in these areas, you could even offer a massage, haircut or apply nail polish for our (female) members! Do not worry about speaking the same language, we have realised that the lack of a common language is no barrier to communication and enjoyment. Our members will always benefit from physiotherapy, music therapy, work therapy or any other kind of engaging activity, if these are skills you wish to share.
Share your belongings
Many people do not have the luxury of enjoying winters in a warm house. Search through your wardrobe and ask your friends for unwanted warm clothing in good condition– sweaters, coats, mufflers, and caps, – or buy socks, slippers, and underwear to handout. We will ensure that they reach those who need them through our outreach programmes.
Share your knowledge
Come and help our students with spoken English, activity-based learning, life skill training, art/craft/music, games. Conduct online interactive sessions designed to boost their confidence and language skills.
Share your skills
Share practical advice with our tailoring group on items which may have a market value, packaging techniques, supporting with marketing, and procuring orders. Conduct workshops to build their skills, financial management, confidence, and self-esteem.
