Bhalobasa(the House of Love) , an oasis of calm within the bustling suburb of Thakurpukur in South Kolkata, our first home established in 2004 with only 4 homeless women living on the platforms of Sealdah Railway station and they were originally beneficiaries of FOKE’s Railway station food program. The inauguration of Bhalobasa was a unique event when Augustina, Jharna, Shefali and Shanti welcomed the guests to “their home”. Currently home to 15 female residents, rescued from the streets of Kolkata.
Our core philosophy is to provide a loving family setting for our residents and proper care for their physiological and psychological well being. Our residents lives together as a family , takes active part in various events, helps in daily chores and running of the household.
They are looked after by a loving team of dedicated staff who keenly observe and provide for their every need just as we would for our elderly family members. Our residents are as much a part of our lives as any of our family members. They bring us joy, shares their wisdom and experience with us. It is a win-win situation for all.
With the help of our benefactors, well wishers, and CSR support from truly benevolent organisations, the house has been renovated, expanded, and made senior friendly. We constructed a beautiful annexe to the original house in January 2021, dedicated to our first Patron, Sr. M.Cyril.Mooney. IBVM- herself the epitome of love and compassion and whose work has been the inspiration for our own journey.
Like our work, and want to know more about it? We’re looking for active members and volunteers who’ll join hands to make this organization more sustainable.
