“HAPPY CLASSROOM”, an education program which was in place since 2006 – 2007 in both homes, was redesigned and rejuvenated when Mrs. Piyali Sen – a retired teacher of DAV School, voluntarily took over the responsibility to develop it under the new name ‘Happy Classroom’ since 2021. We help underprivileged school-going children by providing concept based learning. Our classes are held six days a week for two and a half hour each day in the evenings. Different subjects are taught by young college going students persuing that particular subject. Students learn computers, art, dance, music on saturdays.
Our motto is not just imparting information for but to develop the young students into a sensitive, responsible, caring and democratic citizen along with making them capable of earning their livelihood. Our students are trained to be with the elderly, take care of the environment, cleanliness, gardening, peer – teaching and in taking responsibilities as assigned to all from time to time.
We have two centers, the first one functions at Bhalobasa Home, in Thakurpukur and the second centre is at Charunibas Home in Madhubati Village. We teach students from Nursery to class X at Bhalobasa and from Nursery to class VIII at Charunibas. At present 11 teachers are teaching 84 students in Bhalobasa home and 5 teachers are teaching 70 students at Charunibas.
We are happy to inform you that our first batch consisting of 3 students have successfully completed Madhyamik Exam 2023. At present they are persuing diploma in assistant nursing course.
Our Children also celebrate all important religious, cultural and social festivals so that they can develop secular democratic ideas. Regular workshops on pedagogy with teachers are conducted by specialists or those who are working in this field. We are trying to develop a teaching model for those children who do not get any support for education at home along with creating love and interest for education.
Our teachers are working vigorously towards making a bright future for these children belonging to underprivileged families so that they can be a responsible and respectable citizen.
