Each member is precious to us! But loosing Shanti was like the end of a chapter of FOKE. Shanti was one of our very first 4 members who came to live in Bhalobasha from 7th February 2004. 13 years was a good time and its now only Shefali who is bedridden but still surviving, in Charunibash. Shanti will be remembered for her humbleness and her great self-respect. Her memory was great as she remembered everyone who visited and would not fail to ask about their well being!
She never took her staying in Bhalobasha for granted. She chose to clean the toilets from day one and took pride in her contribution. Shanti had a wonderful farewell from her friends with flowers, prayers and tears!! With her passing away a chapter in the history of FOKE and ‘Bhalobasha home’ ended.
She will keep guiding us we know!
Rest in Peace.
‘Shanti’s story was a truly remarkable one. The day after Bhalobasha opened on 15th February 2004, she insisted we took her to where we found her. She had given a loan of 200 rupees to a man on the street and wanted it back. It turned out that she wanted the money back to give this to FOKE for her keep. I was so blessed to witness this extraordinary gesture and also be part of her story. Love never dies. May she continue to bless us. She will be sorely missed.’
